Title: The Opening of the Dangar Double‑Light Lantern FestivalNews Summary
On the evening of January 1, the third Qinghai Dangar Double‑Light Lantern Festival—held together with the 40th China · Qinhuai Lantern Fair (Dangar Ancient City venue)—lit up the town of Huangyuan. The nationally‑recognized intangible cultural heritage “Huangyuan Paideng” lanterns joined forces with the colorful Qinhuai lanterns, creating a dialogue between Eastern and Western traditions in the historic city. Compared with last year, the lantern installations are larger and more exquisitely crafted. Four main exhibition zones showcase themes that celebrate the New Year and the inheritance of traditional crafts.
Huangyuan County also organized more than twenty special events, including:
- Jan 26 – the 13th “Ten‑thousand‑people Laba Festival”
- Feb 10 – “Spring Couplets Hanging in the Ancient City — Huangyuan’s Grand Opening”
- The 12th day of the lunar month – an eco‑friendly folk‑performance showcase
Additional activities such as a street‑photography contest and an online essay competition invited even more people to take part. As a cultural product of east‑west cooperation, this festival has, for three consecutive years, built a bridge of exchange between Nanjing’s Liuhe district and Huangyuan in Qinghai, breathing new life into the region’s efforts to blend culture with tourism and to attract visitors during the winter‑spring season.
Reflection and Insight
Bringing traditional hand‑crafts and local festivals into public spaces gives many people the chance to see, join, and protect their community’s heritage. In these ordinary celebrations we find the hard work of artisans, the mutual help and warmth among neighbors—foundations that help a community endure.
The Bible reminds us that caring for one another is not just a lofty slogan but a daily practice of kindness and support. May we, while enjoying the lantern festival, continue to treat those around us with honesty, diligence, and peace, preserving the simple sense of responsibility that sustains daily life.
Scripture: Romans 12:10 – “Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.”
